When we got to Uxmal, and looked at the Mayan pyramids. We also learned that they had an obsession with the numbers 13 and 9. 13 being for the levels of heaven and 9 for the underworld. After a lesson in Mayan math, we walked up to the more "modern" buildings built in 900AD where Turtles adorned the temple and proved Katie's point that they were of utmost important.
We climbed the great pyramid to take group pictures and coming down them was really scary because you thought you were going to fall. At one of the main temples, if you stand in the right spot, you can clap and hear a bird noise resonate from the temple.
Then we got back in our white panel van and went to lunch at a local restaurant. (The gucamole was good but not the guacamole.) And most of us had pebil pastor (Yucatan BBQ) The pork was wrapped in banana leaves and was buried underground with charcoal for 1 1/2 hours. And then it is taken out and cooked for another 1 1/2 hours.
When we got back to Merida and played at the main square. It was date day today because it was Sunday and everyone walked around the square. We got churros and shopped at all the little booths. We also saw a man who had an iguana as a pet, he had it on a little leash and used it as a girl magnet. Chelsey bought a traditional Mexican camiseta (shirt) while practiced her Spanish by bargaining for it. Thats all for today, we just finished eating out Street Tamales and are off to watch Batman in a Mexican v.i.p. movie theater.

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
Well I cannot say enough! What a day! The list of highlights had me LOL, so loud I woke up Owen.
They are all great I could not choose, however I can say this as a parent the highlight was seeing you all in front of the pyramid. That was a moment for me. Wish I could be there.
My guess for Hailey's highlight was the movie theater. HELLO mucho spoiled!
Harvey, is that one of the pyramids that the sacrafices took place? If so did you all wash your hands after?
By the way Heather deserves the compliments, keep it up.
Hailey now that OD is home he will do the daily texting. Oh and sorry for the miss spellings yesterday, I had just rode 500 miles on the motorcycle in Mississippi. YUP you cannot see enough of those pine trees. My eyes were blurry.
Much love to you, Hailey tommorrow big day for you.
Mom
Thanks for all in info in the Blog, I read at least twice daily.
Trip sound fantastic. On the Who Said is # 9 Samantha??
Also, be sure to watch out for the "Killer Pineapples oops I meant seagulls."
Man, what a trip!! I am SO jealous, being the archaeologist wannabe that I am. This was the best blog so far - great info and hilarious. I can't begin to guess which one is Katie's. Every time I think I know I change my mind.
Can't wait to hear the next one.
Love you Lots Katie Bug,
Mom
Well, unless the second chance at eating guinea pig has made Adam renounce vegetarianism I'm guessing he didn't find the pork pabil as the highlight of the trip...and just going out on a limb here that he also didn't find Heath Ledger the best either. So I'm saying the excellent nap may be a winner although we could guess Harvey on that one.
Glad to know you are having a great time and seeing lots of cool stuff. I'd love a copy of the police car/handcuffs picture.
